Best. Weekend. EVER!!!!!

I should hope all my faithful followers out there will know just what I would be talking about.

No, it's not Twilight related. :P

(The movie doesn't come out for 6 weeks. THEN, that'll be my best weekend ever. :D At least I'm honest enough to realize & admit that, right?)

Okay, I've gotten off track. Back to subject - Emma & I got to fly out to DC & visit Colby!!!!! We had truly SUCH a splendid time; and I'm somewhat amazed by what distance can do for a relationship. I mean, Colby & I don't normally fight any more than the average married couple - but when you haven't seen each other for a month & only have 3 days together, suddenly there is not a single thing that's worth disagreeing about on any level. We were just the 3 happiest people on the planet for that one lovely weekend! And now we're home, and back to being the 3 saddest people. :( We miss you even worse, Daddy!

Okay, now that the mushy-gushy stuff is over... :) Time for some pics!

Friday afternoon after arriving we made a quick trip to Colby's work to meet his peeps, and then headed to our hotel to check in. We had the yummiest pizza at Generous George's in Alexandria, and then headed back to the hotel to get our poor exhausted girl in bed. She was such a trooper! (Let's just say, a totally full 4-hour flight with Emma on my lap went MUCH better than I expected.)

Saturday morning, I'd signed us up to go to the Alexandria Lowe's to participate in that week's Build & Learn project - making a fire truck! Emma loved it, of course, but mostly loved being there with her Dad.

Emma took the first opportunity she could get to have a turn in Daddy's shoes. And socks, of course. :)

There was no keeping me from the infant section of the DC H&M! We spent some good time (& money, thanks Grandma!) filling out Emma's fall wardrobe. These are the items Emma selected: (and wore around the store while we shopped - she calls the heart belt her "love belt", hehe)

Sunday morning we went to see one of my favorite memorials in DC, the FDR memorial. So gorgeous! Emma was kind enough to escort her Care Bear through the whole thing.

Why do I look so.... swollen in this picture? I swear my face alone doesn't weigh the 20 lbs. that this picture makes it seem. At least my offspring looks adorable as ever.

"Colby, I can't put my finger on it, but lately there's just something coming between you & Emma..."

Familiarizing herself with the "laws of the land"

Sunday afternoon (after giving Emma a full hour to go to sleep for a nap, before entering the bedroom & finding her out of the portacrib, exploring her surroundings... honestly...) we headed to church to put a face with the titles of "Brother Harmon's MIA wife & kid." Even though she was beyond tired, Emma loved nursery and participated in the lessons & activities better than some of the older kids. Then, since we were in a hotel room with a kitchen, I made Colby his favorite home-cooked meal, Penne Pasta with Kielbasa. No matter where you are, it's still delicious!

Monday morning we enjoyed a yummy IHOP breakfast, and NO ONE enjoys a plate full of eggs/sausage/pancakes more than our little girl. Here's the proof:

We spent the rest of the day before our flight seeing some of the other memorials. First, the relatively new WWII Memorial - quite possibly my new favorite, it is absolutely breathtaking!

This wall is covered in 4,048 (if I counted right) stars that represent the more than 400,000 lives lost in the war. It's haunting & so beautiful.

Emma climbed ALL the steps up to the Lincoln Memorial - and back down again. She paused to show us her best Strong-Baby physique.

We asked a nice lady to take our picture at the top of the steps - this is what we got:

Whatever. It has more entertainment value than a picture-perfect shot, right?

Emma is REALLY into her ABCs right now & so loved the Vietnam Memorial. She could've stood there & identified letters for us all day. We, too, would've been pretty pleased with that schedule.

I was reminded of something I'd long-ago forgotten: DC squirrels are INSANE!! When you meet one on a path, rather than running from you they run TOWARDS you just hoping you've got a spare muffin on hand. Lucky for this little guy, Emma was more than willing to share in a midday "cracker-fest."

Emma walking along the Washington Memorial - the "Big Tower."

Finally, a better family picture! Many thanks to the nice young man who, after taking one shot, said, "Uh... let's take another one to be safe." lol I saw the first one & he was very right to make that suggestion.

And now, after having looked through all these pics & reliving the wonderful time we had... I'm even sadder. Dad, when's our next reunion? Answer: not soon enough!
