my bonny lass

Many days, Emma's hair looks just like this:
(yes, this is the face I get when I tell her to "smile at the camera" - a smile it ain't, but it's sure memorable!)
But sometimes (usually after getting inspired over at my BFF Julie's blog - check it out & prepare to be UH-mazed!) - sometimes, I get a little more creative. Now that Emma's hair is so long, I have to admit that I really LOVE doing her hair. Something about the whole process is very soothing & satisfying. (yes, I really did just use the word "soothing" to describe a scenario where Emma has to hold still for longer than 45 seconds.  go figure)

I've caught a few of our 'do's on camera & thought I'd share them. Of course, the prettiest part of the look is always Emma's gorgeous face (did I mention GORGEOUS? when she's not being a dog & growling at me, this girl can be truly stunning) - anyway, enjoy!

This is a combination of the "Crown Braid' idea & a Waterfall Braid - I was considerably proud of myself for thinking it up. :) Kristen Harmon, professional self-horn-tooter. **that sounded stranger than I intended... I'm tooting my own horn shamelessly. There, shoulda just said that.**

This was Emma's St. Patty's Day look - you can't really see the hairdo, but there was a totally cool chain of topsy tails going on. The better parts of the look are, of course, the glittery shamrocks on her cheeks & the truckload of green eyeshadow I put on her.

another idea seen on Julie's blog, the Rose Headband. I adjusted the design to better fit Emma's since she doesn't really have hair thick enough to pull off the original version. But it turned out great & this thing lasted for DAYS! Best part of doing Emma's hair; the time investment definitely goes a long way.
These are probably the only photos I'll get all year of her actually looking at me & smiling, so I felt the need to showcase them. Emma's currently sleeping in all-over twists to give her a nice curly look tomorrow - if it turns out, perhaps I'll be back tomorrow night to share that!

p.s. - my other stunning creation... my birthday present to me. :D "I'm so HAPPY!"
since I'm this only person in my family that can handle this cake, I froze it in sections & shall be enjoying it throughout the year. I smell a sweet, sweet tradition!! If you think you can handle it, go for it - HERE.
