Okay, all credit for this goes to my sister Amy who found out about this: the Lowe's
Build & Grow Program for kids. Every other Saturday, at Lowe's all over the country, kids can go build something new, with the materials & tools all provided - for FREE!! Totally free!
Amy and I were going to take Jackson & Emma, but I'd forgotten about it until this morning, when I remembered a 1/2 hour before it started. So we hurried & ate breakfast, got dressed, and ran out the door. We made a pirate ship, complete with a sliding gangplank (ingenious!) and we even got to keep these adorable little work aprons.

Emma did really well with her hammering - she got pretty close with hitting the nails & when she missed them she put some hefty dents in the wood.

Hoisting the mast:

The finished product, flying our pirate colors!

Emma's pleased with her day's work

In two weeks they'll be making fire trucks; and, even though that's when we'll be in DC visiting Colby (YAAAAYYYY!!!!!!!), I've already got us signed up to go participate at the Alexandria, VA Lowe's. I'm so excited! What a great program from Lowe's!

Wow. I wonder how far away Lowe's is from me? Worth a check...
Home Depot does something similar on the first Saturday of every month, just in case you need another option!
