The children began by getting an apron (which Emma wouldn't wear) and a basket to gather their farm goods. They gathered corn kernels to take to feed the "cow", which they could then pretend-milk, and get a little mini-milk jug for their baskets. Then came apple picking in the orchard, vegetable planting & harvest, and hauling a little mini-bale of hay around in play tractors. After that, we gathered eggs in the hen house & brushed a sheep to earn a little bunch of wool. With all these items in our basket, we could then go to "market" and trade in our goods for some money, to then take to the store where Emma decided to buy a granola bar... and then traded for an apple. (Like I said, fickle.)
I was so impressed! Whoever planned that out did such a perfect job of making it both creative & simple at the same time. 100% A-dorable!! After our day on the farm, we braved the big slide together, had some delicious corn on the cob, rode the carousel, checked out the Siberian tigers, and enjoyed some funnel cake (my favorite). All in all, a far more successful trip to the Fair than I was expecting. Thanks, Grandma!
