Now, for weeks I've been contemplating starting Emma on potty training pretty soon; and I've been thinking about using a 3-day method that Meghan used so successfully on her 22-month old back in October.
According to this method, you start by throwing out all the diapers in the house and giving the child their new big kid underwear. I'd bought some panties months ago, ready & raring to go for just this moment. So, no diapers in the house, panties at the ready... Let's potty-train, Emma!
Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday, we didn't leave the house and Emma walked around in a shirt & panties. She never had more than 2 or 3 accidents a day; but that's just because (as I quickly discovered during this process) she already has the bladder control of her mother. :D TooMuchInfo, but I don't care.
She did pretty well; but I was always helping her along, having her try periodically and constantly reminding her. It didn't really click until the end of the day on Wednesday - but boy did it click!
Today we had our first post-training day and she was 100% accident free! Every time she would be in the middle of playing, then stop & declare "Mommy, I need to wee-wee." Runs to the bathroom, takes off her bottoms, plops down & does her thing - all on her own, easy as that! She totally gets it, and it just tickles me everytime to watch her.
Certainly there'll be plenty of accidents as we go along, but so far we're just ecstatically proud of her. Focusing on things can be hard for Emma, and I was worried that she wouldn't care about giving any attention or energy to learning this big new thing. But, no worries now - she is our super-duper Big Girl! Way to go Emma.
