WHOA! Hold the double-decker bus!! Cat just said "jidges" for the first time in like 12 years! Thank you Cat, really - that made me inexplicably happy.
And, oh yeah baby, I just got treated to a snippet of possibly the best classic movie of all time, IMO - Singing In The Rain!! I think I'll watch tonight, after all those other things on my to-do list are checked off. You know, with all that spare time I have. ;)
Okay, here we go -
Ryan & Ricky, jazz: Good dance, I can always count on a good Mandy Moore routine. I felt like the chemistry between them was quite immature, as Mandy mentioned - it was hot, but at a very basic level. And Ryan needs to learn how to wipe that "Sweet Sally" smile off her face while she dances; I know she's just so happy to be there & the sunshine pours out of her, but in the performance it can be really distracting. I liked it, but I'm not entirely pleased with it.
Caitlyn & Mitchell, contemporary: Love that song, LOVED that beginning shot, really loved their singular commitment and connection to the story. And the dancing itself, just gorgeous! Contemporary is a style that is so extremely dependant on the dancers' ability to grasp the movement as a function of the emotions and story behind it - when that's missing, it's just skilled dancing on a stage; when it's there, however... that's when you get things like standing ovations and Emmy nominations. (not saying this will be Emmy-nominated, just expounding briefly on the merits of contemporary dance.) Tonight, these two definitely made that connection.
*not really succeeding on Operation Abbreviation...*
Missy & Wadi, cha-cha: I'll be honest, I was this close to skipping through that one to save time... Just not great, seriously. And I'd like to say that I give them an "A" for effort, but I'm not actually convinced that they really gave it everything they had tonight & throughout the week leading up. Missy definitely fared better than Wadi, but even she could've given a lot more. They both have a LOT more they could've brought to the table, and I'm keenly dissappointed that they left it at home in the cupboard.
Iveta & Nick: Ugh. Bollywood. I mean, yay! Not convincing? Good, I wasn't even trying, I should hope you wouldn't be fooled by that. Still don't like Bollywood all that much, but I'm starting to realize that I love everything about Nick! He kinda made me like that! And Iveta did a great job too, they made that a lot of fun - wasn't super-strong by strict Bollywood standards, but it was entertaining! Nice work, peeps.
Melinda & Robert, hip-hop: I can't decide if I like Melinda all that much or not; and the novelty of Rovert is kinda started to wear off. Let's focus on the dance: Robert definitely delivered, but Melinda totally missed the bus. She was void of any pop, lock, or hit. And actually, she kinda dragged Robert down a little in the process. Bad Melinda, bad dancer. Go to time-out.
Clarice & Jess, contemporary: I still don't like Jess, but he can still dance & that was definitely enjoyable. Plus, I don't know what I enjoyed more, watching Clarice or her fabulous dress! Me wants. It could have been a bit more captivating, felt a little more sweeping & majestic. But it was lovely.
Jordan & Tadd, viennese waltz: That was quite pleasing from two non-ballroom dancers, Tadd ESPECIALLY. He kinda ran away with that at times. Jordan was lovely as well; I will say that she needs to start taking leaps & bounds in her dance, expanding the depth of performance. I'm really expecting her to start showing us a lot more if she sticks around. But I enjoyed it overall.
Melanie & Marko, jazz: These two are climbing the ladder man, I'm telling ya! That just dripped with classic vaudeville schmooz and snazz. I totally echo Mary's comments (though minus that Chinese water-torture voice) that they are the couple that can likely master anything. So far, they're the ones to beat, I think.
Sasha & Alexander, hip-hop: Alexander kinda had no business dancing that with Sasha; in truth, they really should have made her the soldier in the story because she was the warrior up there. She drove that piece, all the way to the end. That's a major win for Sasha - and sadly, Alexander gets to ride those coattails. Blurg.
Ashley & Chris, broadway: That was a really fun concept for a piece, and they stepped up to the challenge. Because they're both so young, it lacked the desperate fire that could've burned that stage down. But they managed a pretty good smolder; and Chris made great use of those bars as a launching pad for all sorts of fun tricks, so props to him for that. Great way to end the show!
Bottom 3 predictions:
- Melinda & Robert
- Missy & Wadi
- Iveta & Nick

Um, I think Robert's partner is named Miranda, not Melinda. And I was thinking the same thing about Ryan's goofy smile! Btw, why haven't you been commenting on Cat's hair and outfits?
Amy -
Of course it's Miranda; I was just testing you all to see if you were paying attention. Great job Amy, very observant.
