My Little Man

Here it is folks - this is what one-year-old looks like:

A year already, seriously?!?!?!  I'm annoyed, and I kinda feel a little jipped, honestly; I feel like the world says it's been a year but it's actually only been like 4 months and I'm still owed 8 months with a helpless, tiny little baby. But here we are, with a very "big", very mobile, very vocal little mini-person who can really only be described as a one year-old.

I realize that I never really shared much of a birth story, so here goes a quick recap. (And for those who read often, my usage of the word '"quick" should've sent you into peals of laughter.)

5:45 a.m. on the morning of the 6th (2 days before my due date), I woke up to make my usual crack-o-dawn toilet run. Only this time, I received a surprise guest who introduced himself as "Colonel Plug." (Yep, I just characterized a part of my body's pregnancy hardware as an English gentleman. Freud that.)

So I headed back over to my nightstand to consult my pregnancy book about what this might mean for the onset of labor - since I was induced with Emma & was going into this next one a bit unsure about this whole "labor" fuss. After reading that passing the mucous plug could bring labor in a few hours or a day or two, I got up off the bed and headed back to the bathroom. And then decided that things would probably be on the sooner end, since I was wetting myself as I walked.

Graphic enough for ya yet? Oh it gets better.

No, it really doesn't. From there on it's pretty standard - called Auntie Amy to come be at the house with Emma while we headed to the hospital; got checked in, labored (see: watched Twilight on my phone) for about 2 hours before getting an epidural; **sidenote - I also experienced a hefty case of the "labor shakes", shivering uncontrollably through & beyond delivery, very strange but apparently somewhat common** then one more hour until the nurse decided to try a test push - "Whoa, stop!! He's right there, hold it while we wait for the doctor" - and the doctor came in just in time for me to finish my ONE push and bring little Adam Man out to meet us!

And 2 months later, here we are!! Seriously though, I feel ripped off - I get the best little baby boy in the entire world, and every time I blink he's grown another inch and learned 3 new tricks. And now the baby I met that morning is just gone, replaced by the cutest little toddler boy in the entire world!! Well, okay, I guess it's not so bad.

We're gonna have a great day today, lots of family fun & new toys - and the cake-destruction is gonna be EPIC, I'm calling it right now. My car-lovin' kid is getting a car cake, while the rest of us will enjoy the road it drives along. (still have to actually make the cake today, we'll see how it turns out...)

I could spend all day & all night listing all the adorable and amazing things about Adam - but at the end it all comes back around to one thing: he has stolen my heart!! I just melt every morning when I open his door and see those baby-blues peeking up at me. I can barely stop snuggling & kissing him once I've started, and I sometimes fear that I might literally gobble him up. :)

Happy 1st Birthday, my sweet boy!!
