Two words: GO UTES!!!!!!!

Okay, first of all... a big Congrats to the Utes on their perfect season and for their incredible win over #4 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl!!!

Now for a rant...

-The Utes finished 13-0 (the only undefeated team left in college football)

-They beat 4 ranked teams this season (one of which was ranked #1 for 5 weeks)

-They just crushed the SEC runner up in the Sugar Bowl

After all that... they still will not likely finish higher than 3rd, 4th, or 5th in the final rankings.  If they were in a so-called "real" conference, the Utes would have been playing in the National Championship game.  Instead, they'll end up below 3 or 4 one-or-two-loss teams simply because the 6 main conferences want to protect their stronghold over college football.  Will there be an outcry? Probably not.  Will a playoff system be instituted? Nope.  Will the Mountain West be given any more long-term respect? Ha! Keep dreaming.  So what will ultimately happen? Nothing! Nada! Zip! Zilch!  Florida or Oklahoma will be crowned National Champion and no one outside the MWC or WAC will think anything of it.

If anyone needed any further proof that the BCS is not only broken, but flat out corrupt, look no further than this 2008 season as Exhibit A.  This is the season where the all-wise BCS decided that the #5 team should play the #8 team; that two 1-loss teams should play for a national championship over 2 undefeated teams; that a #12 team should play a #19 team (this one is my overall favorite); that a #3 team should play a #10 team; and the worst of all, that #9 Boise State (1 of the 2 remaining undefeated teams at the end of the regular season and ranked higher than 3 of the 10 teams selected) should NOT play in a BCS bowl.  Brilliant!!

The BCS can say what it wants about the Mountain West Conference, but we had at least 3 of the top 15 teams for most of the season... how many BCS conferences can say that? Utah now has 2 BCS championships.... how many BCS teams can say that? If you throw in Boise State and Ball State, it gets even more convincing that the BCS is NOT all that anymore.

All in all... if the BCS thinks the MWC is not a "real" conference.... then I say: Come and play us!!  Utah just tossed down the gauntlet.  Wanna pad your schedules with "easy wins," pad it with us.  Come to us or have us come to you... we don't care. Think we're not a "real" conference, come and play us and we'll continue to show you just how "real" Utah, BYU, and TCU can be!!

Until then, congrats to the so-called winner of the national championship game next week on your so-called self-declared championship title.  But an even Bigger congrats to the REAL National Champion: the 2008 University of Utah Runnin' Utes (the only undefeated team left in college football and holder of the longest game-winning streak in the country as well as the longest bowl-winning streak in the country). If that's not "real" championship caliber then I don't know what is!

...Rant over

Two words: GO UTES!!!

Yikes, Hubby. That was... intense.

I think need a shoulder rub & a nice cup of hot cocoa after that. Too bad I'm not there to oblige. :( You should at least take some deep breaths or something, maybe listen to some quiet music or do some yoga?

I'm just a little worried about you going out & harming a small animal in your rage.... ;)
