SYTYCD: Week 2

Week 2, and I'll just say - already starting on a bad note. Give y'all one guess why?

Ahhhh, yes, you in the back?  A-ha, correct! Here's your free t-shirt!  Answer - Neil's not dancing!!!!  Epic BOO.

So, let's just get this overwith.

Cristina & Pasha: *I'll just say this right now, since it's the giant elephant in the room - She needs to make an appointment with the closest orthodontist in the area & get hooked up with some sweet Invisaligns. Guarantee her votes will go up.* Okay, back to the dance! This style is decently similar to her style, so naturally I would expect it to be excellent. And I think, overall, it was! I do think that at times her technique needs some polishing, but her performance tonight was SOOO powerful & fully owned, and therefore totally believable. So she gets a win tonight!

Adechike & Allison: Still tripped out by the "new" Allison...  And Mandy Moore is just 80's-tastic, I love it!! Okay, I can see Adechike trying, but I'm still not getting enough connection from him. It's better than last week, for sure, but there's so much further to go. I think, for me, it's due to the perfection of his movement. Does that make any sense at all? It's like, when his dancing is so crisp & flawless, and he's making that the primary focus, it cuts off his vulnerability BOTH physically & emotionally, puts up this wall. Aside from that aspect, the piece was beautifully fluid, and I could watch Allison dance all day long. Love her.

Alex & Lauren: How will our Ballet dancer handle Broadway, you ask Cat?  Um... just fine, yep! Oh what a recipe - a little Tyce, a little Fosse, some rockin' lighting, a few hat props, and a dash of Lauren! And oh yeah, ah-mazin' Alex. Equals = More please!! Alex could have gotten a little slinkier and contracted with the moves; but when you're starting as a professional ballet dancer, you have so far to go to get to true Fosse that I think he did exceptionally well.

And Cat, I totally feel your pain on the no-hats-fit complaint. :(

Ashley & Mark: Dear God - Thank you for Travis Wall & all the genius inside of him. Amen. When?? did this happen, but... Mark's hot. Let's upgrade that to HAWT! May need to rewind this number... And I think Nigel's a little up in the night right now, because A: that was totally Jazz, and B: I think Ashley brought a lot of new stuff to the table & offered up a new emotional side in her dancing. I did feel the regretful-wanting-you-back girlfriend in her performance, and I loved the connection between the two of them. And the dancing, ahhh! Okay, I'm definitely gonna rewind & give this a second viewing. I suggest you judges do the same. :P

Billy & Comfort: Billy B Buck is... well he's really giving it a go, eh? Actually I'm quite impressed with Billy for how totally he's committing to his 2 minutes of crump! Most of the time, his crump was more of a slap in the face when it needed to be a punch in the gut. But, there was at least some form of impact & I think that counts for a lot. (And the judges are being bit too harsh, for sure.)

Robert & Anya: I'm such a sucker for a good Argentine Tango. And this was pretty good, as they go. The key to a great A.T. is to have TENSION, like a tightly stretched rubber band - in the movements, in the chemistry, all of it. And that's really hard to do! There were times where that tension slipped with Robert, and the mood was broken for a moment. But for this not being his style, he's actually got a very natural feel for it. I'd love to see more Latin ballroom from Robert!

Melinda & Ade: Other than the costume, I didn't really get any of that whole "Mother Earth" story in the dance. But that's a complaint for the choreographer... Anyway, Miss Melinda - is doing well! I agree with Nigel that she's got very good lines for a tap dancer, but (and this is a good thing) there's still room for more stretch and length in her contemporary dancing. It's a good thing because there should always be room for growth! So good work Melinda, and let's keep that good work up.

Jose & Kathryn: Well, I don't like Bollywood; Jose's not doing too great; so, since Kathryn's killin' it I'll just watch her! lol  I hardly ever like the Bollywood numbers so that's no surprise, and since B-boy Jose hasn't yet caught my attention it isn't likely that his turn with Bollywood would accomplish that. So, it's all about what I'd expect & let's just get on to the next dance!
And note to the judges: You've used up your gratuitous patronizing allowance for the season on this one number, you're all out for the rest of the summer. Congrats.

Lauren & Dom: Yep, it's official - I am Team Lauren, baby! I'm serious, this girl is so crazy-hyper-good! They way she moves is completely uniquely her (the best quality a dancer can hope for, unique style of movement) - and I just wanna see more & more & MORE of her! Hope I get to.

Kent & Courtney: That is one repressed farmboy, y'all!!!!!! And don't worry, Kent, I totally believe that you do indeed want Courtney. Yeah, you sold me on that. :D  Well I definitely liked it way much more than the judges did, I thought he kinda did all the things they told him he needed to do. Hmm, guess I'm not part of the cool kids table on this one. I don't care, he did great. Also, he is just too adorable for one show; I think Kent needs to have his own separate show to better showcase all of his dimples'n'sunshine personality. Second the motion, anyone?

For the bottom 3 this week, I'm not sure exactly which direction to go in - who it should be, based on performance this week; who it will likely be, based on overall audience popularity... it's a toughie! Okay, I think it should be Jose, Melinda, and Billy. But, in reality, I think (sadly) Cristina will be there again, along with Melinda and Billy. I know, Billy Bell in the bottom 3?! Truly. Kent is kinda stealing Billy's "sweet innocence & naivete" bit, hate to say it. But I could be way wrong, and we shall see if I am in less than a day!

And to the producers: Funny joke, not using Neil this week, haha. Now you've had your fun toying with us, don't make the mistake of thinking you'll get away with it again. Seriously, not cool.
