SYTYCD: Week 1

* I know, this is a day late; you can thank (my) Adam & his late-night shenanigans. I shall thank my DVR for keeping my SYTYCD in good hands until I'm ready for it! *

I'm really have a good feeling about this week; I just have a hunch that it's gonna be pretty great.

You know why?

Cat's outfit is A+! (Not the hair though, definitely not the hair. Sadly.) Yep, that's my secret barometer for SYTYCD success; very scientific, eh?

Let's get it started:

Billy & Lauren: Hey, you can't really go very wrong with Footloose, right? Great fun, classic Tyce, love Lauren! I could've had just a little more... something... from Billy. I mean he's amazing obviously, but he has some growing to do when it comes to... something. It's hard to nail down exactly. I did love the attempt to "man-up" his look a little, Billy definitely needs a little man-upping. lol

Cristina & Mark: Oh this girl is my hero right now! I mean it's exactly what Mia said - a salsa dancer doing a Sonya Tayeh piece with MARK for crying out loud... epic stink, right? Soooo nu-uh! She had long lines, isolations, and that certain "sticky" quality that is totally requisite in any good Sonya jazz number. She didn't just step up, she liked jumped up - wow! Great!

Jose & Comfort: Ahh, Comfort. Can't really say I'm glad to see you back, so I'll just say... You're back. Again. I'll keep the eggs & turkeys handy. As for this dance, um, it was cool enough. To be honest, I really didn't get much from it until about the last few bars. I know it was supposed to be a werewolf theme, but I frankly just didn't really see that in the choreography, the costumes (they looked like giant birds, not wolves), or in their performances. Jose has yet to really register on my "contender" radar, and this dance didn't change that. Maybe next week!

Adechike (oh, I am gonna misspell that every week) & Kathryn: Holy heels, Batman! Those things mean serious business. And these two are open for business! Just about the only thing that this dance was missing, for me, was, well - chemistry. lol I know, no small thing! I think that'll be a common problem this season with new partnerships bouncing around every week. He's a great dancer, though!

* Sidenote: Mr. Sandman, I'd like to make a request for a tonight's dream - Kathryn & NEIL doing that dance. :D haha, sweet dreams to me!

Melinda & Pasha: I can whole-heartedly give Melinda an A for effort! haha That's my gentle way of saying I give the result a C. :( As a tapper, Melinda definitely has a LOT of ground to cover in terms of technique refinement. She's used to keeping her legs and feet as loose & floppy as can be, which is as far from the strong, quick & tight Jive as you can get. She's adorable, though, so I hope we get to see her try her hand at something else.

Alex & Allison: Ahh, this song, love it! What a pairing with these two, huh?!? I mean, these are two technical TITANS, yet as any really great dance should be, it was only partly about the technique. It was emotionally raw & that only further enhanced their already perfect movement. We don't usually get this caliber of numbers the first week up, so what an amazing surprise that was. (As I'm watching, here come Mia's comments, this is gonna be good...) That was absolutely bleached-brilliant-white SPOTLESS.

Alexi & Twitch: Yay, Twitch is back!! Can I get an Amen, thank you! Alexi is totally cute and fun, and that just about says it all. Like the judges said, she's sweet to a tee; but it was a little like using sugar to season your hot wings, right? Although there's certainly nothing wrong with some sweet'n'sour chicken, for sure... Now I'm just hungry, dangit. Moving on.

Lauren & Ade: Yeah, I don't think Lauren needs to worry about being sexy... haha Joking aside, I actually thought they both could've toned down the "smiley-smiley-jazz-hands" factor quite a bit. They're both such technical dancers, that it's a bit of an obstacle for the performance. (See: Danny from season 2) But yes, she's safe as feather pillows.

Kent!! & Anya: Oh-my-Kent doing hip action?! This is too cute. I think it's very safe to say that's likely the most he's ever felt or SEEN of a woman's body! Okay, I'm totally just sitting here giggling over that, and it's not because it was laughable or bad - it's because it was so GOOD! And is it just me, or is that totally what Adam would look like doing the cha-cha, am I right?? I have a feeling that adorable little Kent is gonna prove REALLY hard to beat. There's my prediction.

Ashley & Neil: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... Okay, rewinding so that I can watch Ashley now... And I'm back! Okay, so Ashley's another one that's not really on my radar, yet. She danced really beautifully, she has lovely fluidity - I'm not sure I fully believed it all, but I wanted to. So that's a step in the right direction, and I actually see a little something in her that I predict will really blossom in the weeks to come - looking forward to it!

Robert & Courtney: Somewhere out there, little Gev is crying & cursing Robert. LOL! I totally agree with all the judges, Robert hasn't reallly been a stand-out contender so far, and that leaves him nowhere to go but way up! I do think his performance could've had more depth to it emotionally, but I see great things to come from this young man.

So, in danger this week: Jose, Alexie, and Melinda. I think it'll be Melinda first, and that makes me sad, so I hope I'm wrong. We'll see... right now! I love DVR!
