Thanks #14

Today, I am thankful for:

ENTHUSIASM!!!!!!!

And ENTHUSIASM, thy name is EMMA JANE HARMON!!!
Honestly, I know I spend a lot of time on this blog complaining about Emma's, uh, intense approach to life. But at the end of the day/week/month, I always marvel at her tireless SPIRIT.

Emma has more passion for life in her pretty little pinky than many people have ever felt, I would bet. She feels so deeply about everything, and she has spent her whole life anxiously awaiting whatever new adventure lies around the corner. If there's anything I need to learn that Emma can teach me, it's that life is meant to be lived.

Even her first moment of life was spent in exploration: when her head was delivered, rather than squinting her eyes against the sudden light and crying, she opened them wide and craned her neck to see this new place she'd found. She was ready for life in the fast lane & we could only hope that life would be ready for her.

While this zest for life brings some unique challenges for us as her parents, it also gives me wonderful hope for her future. This life is incredibly difficult, and she'll need all the enthusiasm she can get to make it through. Fortunately, I think she's got enough for her to not only make it through life, but to SOAR.

Happy 4th Birthday, my beautiful, brilliant, bouncy baby-girl!!!
