Thanks #20

After a great lesson today in Relief Society, I am mindful of & thankful for:

Gifts

I have a great testimony of the spiritual gifts that we as God's children are each given - and that each gift is special and meant to benefit both ourselves & those around us.

Take my little ones for example: Emma has ambition. Always has - it's what got her walking at 9 1/2 months, climbing in her highchair at 14 months, and doing complex geometry by age 3. :) Okay, maybe that last one is a stretch; but it's no stretch to say that Emma's always been dying to move ahead, to advance to the next best thing & grow up a little more. This does, however, cause Emma to have some difficulty with focus and concentration; and she's frequently getting lectured about appreciating what we have rather than always wanting "more, more, more."

Adam is blessed with the ability to be content. This translates into many different behaviors: he can play with one toy for 20 minutes (Emma couldn't play with one toy for 2 minutes); he can sit on my lap and happily look around when I need him to; he can be happy with the moment without needing to move on to something new. It just doesn't take much at all to make this kid happy! This also means that when he walks a few steps across the floor, he's happy with that much & plops down to crawl the rest of the way. So, learning to walk has been a low, slow process for him.

Though each gift has it pros & cons, I find myself being so grateful for each one throughout the day. They define so much of who my children are, and how they approach life. I hope that as they each continue to grow, they can recognize these & the many other God-given gifts that they possess, and that they will embrace them as an inherent part of their divine nature.

I'm so grateful for my special gifts that I've become aware of throughout my life, and the opportunities I've had to use them to serve others. I hope I'll have many more chances to use my gifts for others' benefit - and that perhaps I'll yet discover other gifts within myself.
